The fourth international conference of the European Research Network on Global Pentecostalism (GloPent) will be held at the University of Birmingham on February 6-7, 2009 under the title "Transnational Pentecostalism in Europe". This conference will pay attention to the phenomenon of migration and in particular, the plenary sessions will consider the presence of large and energetic African Pentecostal churches in Europe and what this means to European societies. We have assembled some of the top experts on the subject for this event. Parallel sessions will also be held on various subjects outlined in the programme, some of which will relate to the conference theme and some that will explore other interests in global Pentecostal studies.

This November the three researchers of the Norface project on transnational Nigerian Pentecostal churches in Europe attended a conference organized by Norface, the sponsor of this project. The researchers are Richard Burgess from Birmingham, Anna Quaas from Heidelberg University and myself (Kim Knibbe) from Vu University in Amsterdam. The three of us are doing research on Nigerian Pentecostal churches in our respective countries. André Droogers, the principal investigator of the project also attended. An important reason to attend the conference was that it was an opportunity for the researchers of the project to meet each other and discuss findings so far as well as issues on how to operationalize the research questions.

The European Research Network on Global Pentecostalism (GloPent) is pleased to announce the first joint research project within the network. It will be funded by NORFACE, a partnership between twelve European national research councils to increase co-operation in research and research policy in Europe. NORFACE receives core funding from the European Commission’s 6th Framework Programme. The theme of the first NORFACE programme is "Re-emergence of Religion as a Social Force in Europe?".

The Forum will bring together some 240 leaders from the wide diversity of the Body of Christ and all the regions of the world. About half of these will come from Evangelical and Pentecostal churches and para-church organizations, including African Instituted churches. They will be joined by representatives of the Anglican and Protestant church families (over sixty participants), the Orthodox churches (some twenty-five), regional bishops' conferences of the Catholic Church (about twenty) and international Christian organizations. To date, over one hundred have already confirmed their participation. It will be the first gathering ever of such a broad representation of all the main Christian traditions in the world.
